Xóchitl Ramírez-Roussel (she/her/ella)

As a multidisciplinary artist, educator, and art therapist in training, my work is deeply shaped by my cultural roots and my commitment to creating spaces where people can connect, reflect, and express themselves through art. I am a proud first-generation college graduate and the daughter of immigrants from México, and my path has been guided by resilience, cultural pride, and a belief in the power of creative expression. Growing up in Chicago’s vibrant Little Village neighborhood nurtured my curiosity about community, identity, and the ways art can bring people together.
For more than a decade, I worked as an art educator in southern Louisiana, where I supported students in discovering their voices through visual storytelling and creative exploration. Teaching allowed me to witness firsthand how art can help people process experiences, build confidence, and connect with others. During this time, my work in education was recognized with several honors, including Teacher of the Year and distinctions in fine arts education.
Now back home in Chicago, I am pursuing a master’s degree in Art Therapy & Counseling at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. As part of my training, I am currently completing my first internship at the University of Chicago’s Student Wellness Center, where I provide individual art therapy sessions and co-facilitate open studio spaces for students. This work has deepened my understanding of how art can support emotional processing, self-reflection, and healing within a therapeutic setting.
My creative practice reflects a blend of my Mexican heritage, personal experiences, and commitment to social connection. Through multidisciplinary work, I explore themes of identity, belonging, and resilience—ideas that are closely tied to my own story and to the communities I hope to serve.
